Hollywood Police Patrol Boat on Intracoastal Waterway

Ensuring the safety of our Hollywood residents and visitors

A message from Chief Chris O’Brien
Hollywood Police Department
City of Hollywood, Florida

Hollywood Residents,

Ensuring the safety of our residents and visitors is the number one priority for the Hollywood Police Department (HPD).

Our beach has always been a place where residents, visitors, and families can relax and enjoy time together, and we are committed to doing everything we can to make sure the shooting that occurred on Memorial Day is something that people will never experience again on our beach.

To this end, the Hollywood Police Department has taken enhanced enforcement measures and commits the following:

  1. When residents make their way to our beautiful beach, as part of enhanced enforcement measures, they will see additional officers deployed and conducting law enforcement.
  2. Officers will use utility terrain vehicles (UTV’s), patrol vehicles, bicycles, electric bicycles, and foot patrols to cover larger areas of our beach and Broadwalk in the most efficient manner.
  3. A modified staffing schedule of police officers, together with an additional team of security guards, will provide greater coverage for peak crowd times on the Broadwalk.
  4. The Parking Division & Code Enforcement will be added to a central beach command post for HPD at the beach.
  5. Enhanced surveillance technologies including additional CCTV cameras and law enforcementmonitored License Plate Readers will be expanded on the beach (and citywide) to bolster crime prevention, detection, and investigation.
  6. New signage will be installed to put would-be criminals on notice that if you come to Hollywood, HPD has its eyes on you.

Thank you for your support as we continue to keep Hollywood safe.
Sincerely,
Chief Chris O’Brien
Hollywood Police Department
