You guessed it…
The Sheridan St. Bridge closure is delayed again. This time the blame is on Hurricane Ian and the impact of its devasting effect across the Florida peninsula.
According to the Florida Department of Transportation ( FDOT), the bridge closure will be extended through Oct. 26, to allow for the completion of the bridge rehabilitation. This is due to the state of emergency declared by Governor DeSantis on Sept. 23 regarding Hurricane Ian. The state of emergency has caused all operations to be suspended while resources are allocated to areas in desperate need of assistance. The Department is committed to delivering a safe and successful project to the community as quickly and safely as possible.
This is an understandable delay as Hurricane Ian devastated the South West coastal communities of Florida and there are many more important issues than a slight delay or detour to the beach on the East coast.
The current projection has the bridge opening on Oct. 26. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that the deadline is met.
FDOT has provided an updated detour flyer which can be found here.
